Ika Yuliana est une artiste et chercheuse née à Banda Aceh (Indonésie) qui vit et travaille actuellement à Malang en Java oriental (Indonésie). Elle grandit en Sumatra du Nord, avant de s’installer à Jakarta et en Java occidental. Sa pratique interdisciplinaire mêlant film documentaire, performance, installation et écriture reflète son parcours personnel à travers plusieurs villes.
Ses recherches récentes portent sur l’échec comme moyen de réflexion et de résistance, ainsi que sur l’absence d’espaces de convivialité féminine dans la vie urbaine. Inspirée par la théorie urbaine féministe, elle explore comment l’invisibilité des femmes dans la planification des villes et la survisibilité de leurs corps dans l’espace public influencent l’imagination, l’espoir et la santé mentale.
Ika Yuliana is an artist and researcher born in Banda Aceh (Indonesia) and grew up in North Sumatra before moving to Jakarta and West Java. Her interdisciplinary practice, which combines documentary film, performance, installation and writing, reflects her personal journey through several cities.
Her recent research focuses on failure as a means of reflection and resistance, as well as the absence of spaces for female conviviality in urban life. Inspired by feminist urban theory, she explores how the invisibility of women in city planning and the over-visibility of their bodies in public spaces influence imagination, hope and mental health.

Imaginée durant la résidence de l’artiste à Paris, entre janvier et mars 2025, cette installation réunit des fragments de la ville : des bâtiments vides, les berges bondées de la Seine, la Marche des femmes du 8 mars à Nation, ainsi que les manifestations #IndonesiaGelap qui ont eu lieu en février. Ces images sont ponctuées de réflexions et de questions inscrites sur le mur de l’atelier d’Ika Yuliana, traçant une cartographie intime entre espace personnel et espace collectif.
À travers un va-et-vient entre Paris et Jakarta, entre les mouvements de contestation en Indonésie et les luttes sociales en France, l’œuvre soulève subtilement des parallèles — ou des différences — entre deux contextes politiques traversés par la colère, la solidarité et la réappropriation de l’espace public. Ce montage de fragments et de voix, nourri d’échanges avec d’autres artistes, curatrices et curateurs, interroge les formes d’intimité publique qui émergent de nos corps en mouvement dans la ville.

Conceived during the artist’s residency in Paris between January and March 2025, this video brings together fragments of the city: empty buildings, the crowded banks of the Seine, the Women’s March on March 8 at Nation, and the #IndonesiaGelap protests that took place in February. These images are punctuated by reflections and questions written on the walls of Ika Yuliana’s studio, mapping an intimate space between the personal and the collective.
Through a constant movement between Paris and Jakarta, between protest movements in Indonesia and social struggles in France, the work subtly highlights parallels — or differences — between two political contexts shaped by anger, solidarity, and the reclaiming of public space. This assemblage of fragments and voices, enriched by conversations with other artists and curators, explores the forms of public intimacy that emerge from our bodies moving through the city.
